Natural disasters tend to be destructive, deadly, and dangerous to everyone and everything that they may come into contact with. Our names are Aymee Knight and Azia Rouse. We both grew up in the little city of Paducah, KY. We have experienced many natural disasters during the last 18 years.  In this blog we will discuss several of these natural disasters that have occurred in the city. We are reporting on these disasters because we feel that they were under-reported on during the time frame in which they occurred.  This blog talks about the 1937 and 2011 Ohio River Valley Flood, as well as the 2009 Ice Storm that spread all across the central states.

Aymee’s part of the blog discusses the 2009 Ice Storm and the damage that it caused in Paducah and the surrounding region, the aftermath of the ice storm, how the community came together, and her personal experience as well as the experience of others. She also discusses the damage she saw during the storm, her experiences volunteering to help the people in her community that were most in need, as well as how she felt about her birthday being right in the middle of the storm.

Azia’s part of the blog informs readers about the 1937 and 2011 floods in the Ohio River Valley area. She discusses how the more recent flood affected her junior prom and how the 1937 flood made the town more cautious of their safety. She explains how much waterfall their was, who was affected, and how the community came together to help one another. Included in her essay is a personal interview from her godmother who was a victim of the 2011 flood. The differences in both the 1937 and 2011 flood are detailed in her essay.
